Do you use cookies?
Yes. We use a single cookie to assign you a "session" ID, which is a long number, and contains no personal information of any kind. If you block cookies, you will not be able to view photos on our site, though the non-photo links should still work.
Our site fetches information for each of the photos from a database. We need to know which photo you're looking at in order to get the right information for that photo. There would be chaos if several people were viewing the site at the same time and we didn't know who asked for which photo.
Therefore, we assign you a unique ID for the duration of your "session" on our website. When you request a photo, your browser sends us the unique ID we assigned to it, and from it we know "who" to send information back to.
The cookie also tells your browser to automatic removal the cookie when you completely close your browser (close all open browser windows, or turn off your computer).
Do you track any other personal information?
The machine that runs our website logs all your web page requests to a file. This file contains the IP address of your computer, the time of your request, what web browser you are using, what operating system your computer is running, which file you requested, and whether or not our computer was able to serve you the requested page.
All web servers perform this action. This information lets the people who run the website gather statistics on what is popular, how often particular pages are requested, and that sort of stuff. This information also proves helpful when there is a problem with the website, telling us when the error occured and perhaps even providing us with a useful error message.
Some sites use this information to provide demographic and statistical data to 3rd parties. We don't. The information is strictly for our use.
